This is our story from the past year…
I still remember vividly the day in March 2020 it was announced childcare facilities would be closing. I had just purchased Origins in Dec 2019. I was scared and concerned. My colleague, Kate, didn't leave my side that evening until after 9 PM. The next day (first closure day) my leadership team filled the main office to hatch plans. Before I could say much at all, the team assured me that we needed to provide essential services care. They were thinking of our families, and others, who would need this care and we just knew it was something we had to do. We had no details, but again, knew it was the right thing to do. My phone was busy with texts and calls from staff as well, all who wanted to work and provide essential care. My heart was full, after a sleepless night.
This is just one example of how quickly and without reservation early childhood educators and others, essential to our field, came together to shine light on our communities and provide hope in a dark time. We continued to do this work without a break, and will continue day after day. We are humbled in our work and thankful to be with young children each and every day. Children who are, quite literally, our future.
